The Power of a Brighter Smile

A brighter smile can make you feel more attractive and outgoing in social and professional settings. The problem is that simple, everyday activities inevitably stain your teeth. Teeth whitening sounds like the perfect solution to combat this, but you want to make sure that the treatment you choose doesn’t damage your teeth in the process.

Here in our Coral Gables dental office, we offer safe, effective teeth whitening treatments that utilize advanced technology to noticeably brighten your teeth while still protecting your natural enamel.

What Causes Tooth Discoloration?

  • Fluorosis: excessive fluoridation during your tooth development can leave your enamel compromised and make you more prone to tooth discoloration
  • Normal wear: Wear and tear on the outer layer of teeth breaks down natural enamel and allows food and drink to stain your teeth more easily.
  • Medications: some medications, such as those that contain tetracycline, can result in tooth discoloration

Our Teeth Whitening Treatments

The take-home teeth whitening systems our dental office offers use the latest techniques to ensure your teeth stay protected and our skilled team will be there to guide you every step of the way.  They usually require two visits.

At the first appointment, impressions (molds) of your teeth will be taken to fabricate custom, clear plastic trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary.

The trays are worn with a special whitening solution either twice a day or overnight, depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience tooth sensitivity during the whitening period, but it will subside shortly after you stop bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and we encourage you to visit our office in Coral Gables, FL, regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to whiten my teeth?

Yes, whitening your teeth is safe when done with the guidance of a dentist. We provide professional-grade products and dive into your medical and oral health history to ensure whitening is suitable for your needs.

How long will my whitening results last?

Unfortunately, teeth whitening isn’t permanent. However, the longevity of your results depends on your lifestyle. Smoking, consuming dark beverages (coffee, tea, red wine), and certain foods can stain your teeth faster and work against your newly whitened teeth. By maintaining good oral hygiene and limiting your intake of stain-causing culprits, you can enjoy your brighter smile for up to a year.

I have some old fillings. Will they also whiten?

Teeth whitening only affects natural tooth enamel. Existing fillings, crowns, or veneers won’t whiten your teeth. To get the most uniform smile, we might recommend replacing your restorations after whitening your teeth to match your new smile.
