Strong teeth that lasts you a lifetime is our goal. At University Dental Group, we want to help you do just that. The key to keeping your teeth healthy is prevention. Our dentists, Dr. Morales, Dr. Garcia and Dr. Triana can help.
The Center for Disease Control reported that in a year, the average percent of children who have a dental checkup is 83% but for adults, that number drops to 61% and even less in older adults. We would like to encourage all of those numbers to increase, we want to see 100% of our patients for regular care.
What is Preventive Dental Care?
Home Care Preventive care starts at home. There is an extreme value that comes with brushing and flossing daily. By removing food, debris, plaque, and bacteria, you are making the first and possibly most important step toward dental health. We ask that our patients brush their teeth after they leave their beds in the morning and before they return to their beds at night.
Brushing twice a day helps remove the constant accumulation of bacteria. We also ask that our patients floss their teeth every night with their nightly brushing.
Office Care Additionally, scheduling dental visits twice a year will help you maintain a healthy mouth. Your appointment begins with our skilled dental hygienist. She will clean your teeth, remove any plaque, calculus or tartar that has built up on the surface of your teeth or along your gum line.
Part of this appointment includes looking for signs indicating gum disease or periodontitis. Signs includes gums that bleed when brushing or flossing, gums that are irritated, painful, or puffy. We will measure your gum pockets, and if they measure greater than 3 mm, we may recommend a deep cleaning.
Finally, one of our three dentists will meet with you for a dental exam. Our dentist will look for any visual abnormalities and also exam dental x-rays for indications of decay, infection or fractures.
Maintaining good oral hygiene through continued preventive measures can help extend the life of your teeth, giving you good oral health for years to come.
